ALPE DI LUSIA
A few minutes drive from Moena, in the heart of the Val di Fassa, the Alpe di Lusia is an enchanting place for families with children of every age. It's not just the wonderful landscape, with wide green meadows and majestic peaks all around, but more especially the wealth of stories and legends, and the many enjoyable games and activities on offer during the summer months.
ALPE DI LUSIAnbsp;
It's an easy ride in the modern cable car that connects Ronchi to Chalet Valbona (1820 m), and takes you up to the highest, most scenic point at Le Cune (2200 m). This is the start of the splendid Sentiero degli Animali (Animal Trail), a downhill walk that takes about an hour and 20 minutes, and is also suitable for pushchairs. Along the route, there are various signs that tell children which animals live in the mountains and describe their habits. At each point, the children have to solve a riddle to reveal a new animal (a bear, hare, roe deer and many more), transforming this walk into a little adventure in the woods.
The trail ends at Chalet Valbona, an excellent self-service restaurant and bar with scenic terrace. It's the perfect place to relax and enjoy a typical Trentino dish, while the children can play in the large garden with slackline, Tibetan bridges and zip line. From Chalet Valbona, you could continue along the Nature Trail, which is also mainly on the flat; it leads to Colvere and takes about 50 minutes.
PASSO SAN PELLEGRINO
Col Margherita Park
The Col Margherita Park stands at 2514 metres, and is easy to reach by cable car from Passo San Pellegrino. This theme park was created in collaboration with the MUSE Science Museum of Trento with the aim of imparting scientific ideas about the history and geology of the Dolomites in an enjoyable way. The discovery trail consists of 3 different installations, designed to inspire the curiosity of both adults and children, including volcanoes, glaciers, islands, sea beds, geological eras and fossil finds.
ISLANDS OR MOUNTAINS?
It starts with an imaginary journey through time, following a trail about 30 metres long. Every metre of this pathway corresponds to 10 million years, and as you slowly walk along it, you can discover the different geological eras and the main stages involved in the creation of the UNESCO World Heritage Dolomites.
SUSPENDED IN TIME
It continues with an exciting race against time in search of the fossils and other finds that typify the 9 Dolomite groups, compelling evidence of ancient forms of life preserved in the earth's crust after their death.
THE TIMONE DELLE DOLOMITI (HELM OF THE DOLOMITES)
At a height of 2550 metres, the highest and most scenic point on Col Margherita, you will find the Timone delle Dolomiti. This huge interactive wheel allows you to play with the shapes of the Dolomite peaks that stand all around you, and try to guess their respective names.
The Trails of the Great War
Starting from the upper station of the Costabella chairlift and the Col Margherita cable car, there are some interesting historical trails, retracing the path of the bloody clashes between the Italian army and the Austro-Hungarian troops that took place during the First World War. There are many remains from the war such as trenches, huts, stairs and wooden walkways, gunner's stations and shelters for people and ammunition: a real open-air museum surrounded by the silence of the Dolomite peaks. We recommend the Alta Via Bruno Federspiel, the Alta Via Bepi Zac and the Alta Via Mariotta.
